Taking Care of Varicose Veins & Spider Veins

Spider veins of the legs and face are very common. While they are benign, many people choose to address them due to their appearance. Fortunately, there are options for treating spider veins.

Lifestyle Changes

To start off, you can try making certain changes in your lifestyle that can help you address varicose veins and spider veins. One of the most common treatments is wearing compression socks or stockings. Wearing these on a daily basis can cause the blood to flow more efficiently through your veins. You can also change how you take care of your body. Increasing exercise and losing weight can help address your varicose and spider veins. Starting off with lifestyle changes is a good preventative option, but once spider veins are there, there is typically only one option to remove them, and that is by laser treatments.

Laser Treatment

You can use laser treatments for a variety of ailments including spider veins. With laser treatment, there are two main options to pursue. For smaller veins, including spider veins, you can use simple laser treatment which is when a laser is applied to the outside surface of the skin. Usually, you will need multiple sessions and eventually the vein will fade away. For larger veins, including varicose veins, non-invasive topical laser is not the best option. A better option is endovenous laser treatment where a laser is inserted into the vein in order to treat it. For both types, you can expect a quick recovery with little to no interruption to your daily routine.

Sclerotherapy

A third and fairly common option is sclerotherapy. For varicose veins, a foam solution is injected into the varicose veins. This solution will scar the vein and eventually it will close up. You will not need any kind of anesthesia for this procedure. Although, you may experience some slight stinging or cramps when the needle is inserted. After the procedure, you will be able to return to your daily activities. In fact, it is best for you to begin walking around as this can help blood clots from forming. While sclerotherapy is an excellent option for treating the look of varicose veins, it can also help address any pain or other discomfort.

If you have varicose or spider veins, it’s likely that you don’t enjoy the look of them. There’s no reason for you to continue living with them. Consider different treatment options for varicose and spider veins and find what is best for you.
