What Your Skin Is Trying to Tell You

Skin is your body’s largest organ and often gives big clues about overall health! While there are plenty of things you know you need to do for your skin, you can also pay attention to the signs it’s giving you. Your skin can help you know what your body needs. It’s worth understanding the signs so you can know what to do.

Time to Hydrate

One function of your skin is to act as a protective barrier. As a barrier, it works to keep moisture in the body and prevents water loss. If your skin is dehydrated it will begin to show some signs. Skin in need of hydration or moisturizing will often be dry, cracked, dull, or tight. If you see these signs, then it’s likely your skin isn’t able to act as that protective barrier and it’s time to hydrate. Start drinking more water and take time to moisturize your face. When you’re hydrated, your body will function more efficiently. Additionally, you can look forward to having more healthy, youthful skin.

Hormone Imbalance

When your hormones are out of balance, you can often tell by symptoms that appear on your skin. In particular, you’ll see signs on your face. You might suddenly have breakouts or other changes in the skin such as redness or changes in the texture. Some of these changes are common. For many women. they will occur during their monthly cycle. However, if these changes are prolonged, it can mean there is an imbalance in your hormones. If you notice these changes, schedule an appointment with your doctor. They can help you determine if there is a more serious problem to address. Some changes in your skin can be minor and the result of hormones shifting slightly, but it’s still a good idea to talk with a doctor just to be sure.

Change Products

Not all skin types are the same. Some people have more sensitive skin. Some can be irritated by certain ingredients, chemicals, or products. When going through your skincare routine, you want to be aware of how your skin reacts to the products you use. If your skin shows signs of redness, dry patches, or other irritation then you may need to change products. Transitioning to medical-grade skin care is an investment worth considering as well.

It’s always a good idea to listen to your body. When you pay attention to what your body is telling you, then you can better respond to what it needs. Look out for symptoms that appear in your skin.
